Dr Camilo Chacón-Duque

PhD. in Human Evolutionary Genetics  - UCL

Postdoctoral Researcher at Natural History Museum.

Camilo is an evolutionary geneticist who uses genetic data and statistical modelling to explore the demographic history and the evolution of different species. Previous work includes human Latin American populations. Currently, his research focuses on the characterization of spatial and temporal patterns of genetic diversity in mammals from Colombia. For this purpose, he applies ancient DNA (aDNA) and Next-generation sequencing (NGS) approaches to study specimens from museum collections, aiming to understand better the evolution and ecology of these species. As part of his role in the wider project (GROW Colombia, funded by GCRF), he is also involved in the training and mentoring of researchers in Colombia, mainly on the use of aDNA methods to study museum collections.
