Stephen M. Hart  (BA, Cambridge University 1980; PhD, Cambridge University, 1985), is Professor of Latin American Film, Literature and Culture at University College London. He is General Editor of Tamesis and founder-director of the Centre of César Vallejo Studies which promotes knowledge of the life and work of Vallejo via annual cultural events and symposia. He is the Director of a Documentary Film-Making Project which runs an annual summer school in Cuba at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños, operational since 2006, and he is Director of the Festival of the Moving Image. He has co-directed a short documentary based on Cuban inventiveness, El invento (2006), and directed a docudrama based on César Vallejo’s life and work, Traspié entre 46 estrellas (2006), screened at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine, Paris, in Rome and in California, as well as two short documentary films, Chiaroscuro (2008) on the making of Julio Garcia Espinosa's El Megano, and Sin titulo (2009) which analyses nightmares, politics and film in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's work. Stephen Hart recently completed a film version of one of Cesar Vallejo's plays, Dressing-Room. He was interviewed on BBC Four - World News Today, BBC World, on 7 October 2010 as a result of the award of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2010 to the Peruvian author, Mario Vargas Llosa. He has been awarded the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services by the Peruvian Government (2004) and has an Honorary Doctorate from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Peru (2004). He was made a Miembro Correspondiente by the Academia Peruana de la Lengua in January 2014 and awarded the Order of Merit by the National University of Trujillo in October 2014.
